| What annoys me is the way the media (and occasionally the public) tar us all with the same brush.. There are bad apples everywhere but it's important for people to bear in mind that the horror stories we read about in the media reflect a very small minority of NHS staff. In a recent large scale survey, most patients said they were happy with the care they received in hospital. I think the complaints procedure for patients and other members of staff making complaints needs to be made better. Letters of complaints fall on deaf ears. At the moment complaints are answered politely by a complaints officer who gets paid more than the A+E consultant and spends most of her day making paper airplanes.At best it will stop her getting bored in that gap between coffee and lunch. Complaints need to be taken seriously so we can improve patient care and prevent failings. But on the other hand, one can't blame people for losing faith with NHS staff when time and time again they read terrible stories in the media. Of course it's not really the NHS staff who is most at fault (although we ALL are professionally accountable for what we do), it all boils down to poor management. Why are some health care workers allowed to get away with murder? Literally in some cases! I am a new generation Nurse, but I have always said, bring back the matron! |

| we have a dry doe that produces wonderful kits, so what we did was feed them kitten milk. feed them every one and a half to two hours (i think. my mom was the "nurser") or at night and morning. if their mom is still keeping them warm, let them live with her, but if not, take them out and make a nice and warm nest for them that will suit their needs and continue to feed them until they are 8 weeks old (that's just the formula). start introducing the rabbit feed at about 4-6 weeks in small amounts and hang a water bottle so if they get curious, they can see what it is. And I have no idea if peeing on you means its getting fed, but if you're really scared, just feed them the kitten formula as an additive to make sure. Can't be too careful! |
| Hey guys!! Mala gave birth to 9 pups!!! 2 simple questions though...? Ok...she gave birth on friday October 22, to 9 gorgeous pups. One of those pups was the little "runt" of the litter, but i started bottle feeding her goat milk in the first 2 days because the rest of the pups were pushing her away and she wasnt getting milk....but, now the pups is fat and very active :P . At first Mala wasnt producing much milk...only 2 **** were DRIPPING milk during the first 2, 3 or 4 days, so i was bottle feeding most of the pups (the thinner, smaller ones) and letting Mala nurse the bigger ones. Now, she's aparently giving milk to all pups (for the past few days), because everytime i walk into the bathroom (bout every 30 minutes to 3 hours) all the pups are either sleeping and twitching or they are wobbling around fat as hell haha. Mala at first was starting to show agression (i THINK) to the pups...she would put her nose on them and show her teeth and growl...i have to say, the first time she did it, i got scared and slapped her lol But she's been trained since she was 3 months (started training her at 2 months when i got her), so i just started spending more time in the bathroom, and every little time she would growl at them i would just say "heeey!" or "nice!", and she would just lay back down, and let them nurse or sleep. So, thats under control. Mala NEVER lost her appetite...the day she gave birth she at a full bowl of puppy chow, mixed with plenty of white rice, and gave birth no more then 3 hours later lol She just lost her appetite the following days after giving birth...started to lose weight (like ive never seen my baby before! :( ) but now shes back to eating 3 to 4 times a day, so shes gettin fat again. Another thing was, that she started losing hair like crazy...i was scared...didnt think it was mange...because mange leaves "flakes" on the skin from what i know...then again, i had a friend who had a nursing pit, and she had lost ALOT of hair...so i did research, and well, from what i read, its normal and common...she's just "blowing her coat"...I wrote all this, because well...Ive been pretty damn responsible as a owner and a new "grandpa" :P ... just wanted to make that clear. :) Question #1: I think this is most likely normal, but it isnt a sin to overreact is it? lol Well, another reason ive been back & forth watching the pups, is because Mala is still discharging blood (which is normal), but im guessing since the pups cant see, they pick up a "scent" from Mala, and they go towards her vulva, and start sucking it thinking its a tit ... Mala has shown no signs of infection and is doing quite fine, but can this affect the pups? I dont let it happen anyway...thats nasty lol. What ive been doing is, seperating all pups from her when nursing, and letting them feed 4 by 4, because that happens when there arent anough **** for all pups...so the remaining pups always go to her vulva. | Sheesh, some serious debate here! Anyway, I'm not a breeder or anything but I'd say to keep up what you're doing. (Having them nurse a few at a time.) And watch them closely, of course. Also, make sure not to give those puppies away (The ones you have homes for.) until they are ready to leave their mother. They need the mother's milk for a couple of weeks before than can go. Also, I agree with Ashley on that statement about the vet. Just because everything "appears" okay doesn't mean it is. Good luck. :D |
| What can i do for my cat who is in pain? (Please read)? She had kittens over a month and a half ago and i recently (2 days ago) gave the kittens away. (They are all at the same home with a relative) Since last night she has been whining/like screaming if you pick her up. Her teats/**** are big, they haven't looked like this the entire time she was nursing. (I know they are swelled up but is there anything i can do?) I guess where they are swollen and hanging low she must cannot make herself get into the litter box because of pain (?) and she is pooping all over the house -something she has never done ever.... She is just laying under a table right now, she will not come to me which she always does.. I have called a vet and they are suppose to call me back but haven't yet so while i am waiting on that can anyone tell me if i can do anything for her? Should i go and get her kittens back so they can suck her? will this go away soon because if i go and get her kittens back then it is going to be hard the second time giving them away.. |
| Hi JuliansMom, As a former experienced cat breeder, from what you describe it sounds like your cat may have developed mastitis. This can be a life threatening condition, as the infection can spread to the rest of her system, and must be treated by a veterinarian immediately. If your vet doesn't contact you soon, consider calling an emergency veterinary clinic and at least, describe the symptoms to the veterinary tech on call. This is a very painful condition. I do hope that your vet calls you back in a reasonable amount of time. Since this is more than likely an infectious process, do not bring the kittens back to nurse on her. Your vet will prescribe pain killers and antibiotics to cure the infection. While you are waiting for the vet to call, however, IF your cat will tolerate your touching her, you can help her be a little more comfortable by holding a warm wet washcloth on the area for about 10 minutes several times a day.
